Van Buren Bridge & Construction Company

The Van Buren railroad is owned by Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway Ltd. It was purchased from the Iron Road system (through the Canadian American Railroad Company) when the MM&A acquired the assets of the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad (BAR), the Van Buren Bridge Company, the Quebec Southern Railway Ltd. and the Canadian American Railroad Company.

My 1997 Canadian Trackside Guide says that they operate between Grand Falls and Cyr Junction, NB (and Van Buren, Maine). It also says that they had one unit on roster, #8042, an MLW-built RS-23, formerly CP #8042. More recently the Quebec Southern #506 operated on this line.

The Trackside Guide lists the following mileposts for this railroad:

  • 20.4, Grand Falls (Yard)
  • 28.2, Cyr Junction (interchange with CN)
  • 31.3, St. Leonard (joint track with CN)
  • ????, Van Buren, Maine (interchange with Bangor & Aroostook)
